raavannan
Vanakkam, Hello.
I’m delighted to greet you all via my website after a long time.
Raavannan album has come halfway towards completion. Thishanthan and Santhors have composed the music for this album.
Although it has been believed by some that the album Raavannan is of epic nature, it isn’t an epic-inspired composition. The title of the album is the only factor contributed by the epic. The reason behind the choice of name Raavannan is ‘I feel that amongst Tamils and our community, we seem to think of Raavannan as a villain or a demon. I would like to put forward a different viewpoint and change the misconception’.
To me ‘Raavannan is a hero, a representative of Tamils. If I were to examine Ramayan and the regional division, people from Lankapuri were demons, the dark people from south of India who aided Ram were monkey-clan and those from the north of India were the gods and where from comes Ram’. I am unable to accept this myth. I feel Raavannan is a king from Lankapuri; I am able to accept this version of the story but cannot believe the Epic Ramayana’s version. And so I consider the King Raavannan a symbol of Tamils. The title track represents this concept and how in particular this symbol is set to its demise. The other tracks in this album are concepts ranging from love to social issues. As you may know my works primarily address issues of social concern, those of relevance to the society I live in and which affect me.
Raavannan is in its making and I expect this album to be due for release by the end of this year. It was to be released last year but our situation last year had not given us the time or space to even consider or be concerned about the album.
I would also like to add that when my website was down, I had many e-mails to express support and concern. I would like to thank every one of you who contacted me via e-mails and various other means. I appreciate your concern, be it my friends or fans. I thank you all for the support; I shall meet you with Raavannan.
Nandri, Thank you.
